This Web site was hand-coded using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML, Version 4.01 Strict), which is the standard markup language for Web pages. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) are used exclusively for text formatting and extensively for page layout. A Web browser scripting language called JavaScript* is used for intrasite navigation, image copyright protection, and status bar messages. Dynamic Hypertext Markup Language (DHTML), not a formal computer language but a combination of Cascading Style Sheets and JavaScript, is used for special effects, such as the rollovers for the main menu on the home page and the tooltips for the photos on the Photo Archives page. Finally, PHP, a server-side scripting language, is used to process the online rare bird documentation form.
