Cackling Goose: Lake Cty (North) - 1 at Waukegan Beach on 10/24/09 (Eric Walters). DeKalb Cty (North) - 3 at Afton Forest Preserve on 10/24/09 (Darrel Shambaugh). Lake Cty (North) - 3 at Wadsworth Wetlands on 10/20/09 (Jim Solum). Cook Cty (North) - 1 at Calumet Park on 10/20/09 (Walter Marcisz). Kankakee Cty (Central) - 4 at LeVasseur Park on 10/20/09 (Jed Hertz). Kane Cty (North) - 6 at Hupp Park in Aurora on 10/18/09 (Darrel Shambaugh).
Surf Scoter: Cook Cty (North) - 2 at Saganashkee Slough on 10/24/09 (Amar Ayyash, Wes Serafin). They were best viewed from the middle parking lot on 107th Street. Bond/Clinton/Fayette Cty (South) - 5 at the Carlyle Sewage Lagoon off of Sand Ridge Road on 10/24/09 (WGNSS group et al.).
Eared Grebe: Eared Grebe: Madison Cty (South) - 2 at Horseshoe Lake State Park on 10/24/09 (Connie Alwood et al.). They were at the end of Layton Road the Hwy 23 side of the lake.
American Avocet: Cook Cty (North) - 5 at Montrose Point on 10/24/09 (Luis Munoz). They were later flushed. Cook Cty (North) - 3 at 64th Street Beach on 10/24/09 (Sylvia and Glyn Dawson). Calhoun Cty (South) - 1 at Swan Lake/Illinois River Levee on 10/18/09 (St. Louis Audubon Society et al.).
Short-eared Owl: Cook Cty (North) - 1 was flushed at the Montrose Point Dunes on 10/20/09 (Bob Hughes). Lake Cty (North) - 2 at Rollins Savannah on 10/20/09 (Beau Schaefer). Likely the same 2 continued to be seen at Rollins Savannah on 10/21/09 (Eric Walters).
Chimney Swift: Cook Cty (North) - An estimated 3,340 roosted at the Evanston Police Station (1454 Elmwood Avenue) on 10/20/09 (Fran Morel). They were seen throughout the week by many other birders.
Harris's Sparrow: Cook Cty (North) - 1 at the Montrose Point Dunes on 10/24/09 (Karen Mansfield).
