Tundra Swan: There have been many reports over the past week. The more notable ones include the following: Carroll Co (North) - 100s at Spring Lake of the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife Refuge on 11/28/09 (Anne Straight). Lake Co (North) - 1034 at the Illinois Beach State Park Hawk Watch on 11/27/09 (Paul Sweet, et. al.). The Hawk Watch is conducted from the Sand Prairie Day Use Area Pavilion in the North Unit of Illinois Beach State Park.
Surf Scoter: Peoria Co (Central) - 1 in the Illinois River channel visible from the Riverplex Casino in Peoria on 11/27/09 (Pete Fenner). It was relocated the next day. Cook Co (North) - 9 seen from Gillson Park on 11/27/09 (Jeff Sanders). Lake Co (North) - 1 at Lake Michigan viewed from the South Unit of Illinois Beach State Park on 11/24/09 (Michael Baum, Matthew Winks). Boone Co (North) - 1 at Candlewick Lake on 11/23/09 (Dan Williams). 1 fly-by seen from Montrose Point on 11/23 (Bob Hughes, Geoff Williamson).
White-winged Scoter: Tazewell Co (Central) - 1 at the Spring Lake Fish and Wildlife Area of the Mississippi River (Lock and Dam 13) on 11/28/09 (Anne Straight). Lake Co (North) - 1 at Lake Michigan viewed from the South Unit of Illinois Beach State Park on 11/24/09 (Michael Baum, Matthew Winks).
Black Scoter: Many individuals have been seen this past week. The locations are as follows: Druce Lake (Lake Co), Springbrook Prairie (DuPage Co), Shabbona Lake (DeKalb Co), Illinois Beach State Park (Lake Co), and Montrose Point (Cook Co).
Long-tailed Duck: Cook Co (North) - 7 seen flying North from Gillson Park on 11/29/09 (Sam Burckhardt, Nathan Goldberg). Lake Co (North) - 1 at the North Unit of Illinois Beach State Park on 11/29/09 (Sam Burckhardt, Nathan Goldberg). 4 at Fort Sheridan on 11/28/09 (Bonnie Duman, Greg Schechter). Cook Co (North) - 9 seen from Gillson Park on 11/27/09 (Jeff Sanders).
Red-necked Grebe: 1 fly-by seen from Montrose Point on 11/23 (Bob Hughes, Geoff Williamson).
Western Grebe: Shelby Co (Central) - 1 and a possible Clark's Grebe at Lake Shelbyville observed from Eagle Creek State Park on 11/28/09 (Travis Mahan). 2 Western Grebes were seen the next day.
Cattle Egret: Cook Co (North) - 1 at the Chicago Botanic Gardens on 11/27/09 (Elizabeth de la Baume).
Black-legged Kittiwake: DeWitt Co (Central) - 1 1st cycle photographed at the SW Spillway at Clinton Lake on 11/29/09 (Matthew Fraker).
Thayer's Gull: Lake Co (North) - unspecified number at Stateline Beach in Winthrop Harbor on 11/23/09 (Mike Baum, Matthew Winks).
Lesser Black-backed Gull: Lake Co (North) - unspecified number at Stateline Beach in Winthrop Harbor on 11/23/09 (Mike Baum, Matthew Winks).
