Membership Information

Benefits of belonging to IOS include:

  • Early and discounted registration to special field trips and events, like the Gull Frolic.
  • Receiving the Meadowlark, the quarterly journal of ornithology for professionals and amateurs containing articles about Illinois birds, birders, and birding locales, illustrations and photography, photo essays, technical research papers in ornithology, seasonal highlights, historical information, field notes and more.
  • Meeting, interacting with, and learning from birders around the state at IOS events and field trips.
  • Supporting bird research and conservation through the IOS Grants program.
  • Supporting the Illinois Ornithological Records Committee, which reviews records of rare bird sightings and maintains the official checklist of Illinois bird species.
  • Supporting the Illinois Young Birders.
  • Supporting Listers Corner, an annually updated list of Illinois birders’ life lists and more
  • Assist in collecting ornithological data for publication and permanent record.
  • IOS is a 501c3 organization incorporated in the State of Illinois. Membership dues are tax deductible, less a $32 publication fee.

Membership Types

Individual This membership is for one individual. $35
Household This membership includes all the people living at a single household, including eligible Illinois Young Birder participants. $50
Illinois Young Birder Illinois Young Birders (ILYB) is a birding club for kids, teens, and young adults ages 8-18. When registering please include the name of a guardian and their contact information. $15
Student Discounted membership for college students over 18 years old. $20
Library/School/Organization Intended to provide the Meadowlark journal to Libraries, Schools and other organizations. $50
