On the basis of an individual found, photographed, measured, and banded by Leslie DeCourcey at Sagawau Environmental Learning Center, Cook County, Lesser Goldfinch (Spinus psaltria) became the 452nd species on the official Illinois State List of Birds after the sighting was accepted as valid by the Illinois Ornithological Records Committee. The bird was present at Sagawau during 5-16 March 2022, allowing many interested birders to see and photograph it.
